Status (see H.Renshall's talk for details):

• Categorisation according to:

  • capacity

  • quality

  • cost

  • number of read/write passes

  • & performance

    into:

  • data centre (some IBM & STK models)

  • intermediate (other IBM models, Seagate, HP)

  • commodity (DLT, Sony, Exabyte)

• STK Redwood tapes will be moved to IBM 3590Es as support will stop (end 2002) negotiating now as as our contract requires support for 10 years

• Users no more buy tapes, they only pay for the total management by the data centre.

• fatmen will be eventually replaced by Castor for some of its bookkeeping functions but some of the meta data functions would have to be provided by higher level software.
