• DataGRID project proposal accepted by the European Commission

• The consortium now contains 21 formal members

• If contract signed in November, the project will start in January

• Three parts to the project (overall managed by Fabrizio Gagliardi, CERN):

• Middleware

• Testbed

• Applications

• Middleware Work Packages (to be built on top of the Globus software):

• Grid Work Scheduling (coordinator: Cristina Vistoli, CNAF)

• Grid Data Management (coordinator: Ben Segal, CERN)

• Grid Monitoring Services (coordinator: Robin Middleton, RAL)

• Fabric Management (coordinator: Tim Smith, CERN)

• Mass Storage Management (coordinator: John Gordon, RAL)

• Applications Work Packages:

  • HEP labs in LHC experiments (coordinator: Federico Carminati, CERN)

  • Earth Observation (coordinator: Luigi Fusco, ESA/ESRIN)

  • Biology (coordinator: Christian Michau, CNRS)

• Testbed (coordinator: Francois Etienne, IN2P3) and
  Network Work Package (coordinator: Christian Michau, CNRS) provide the environment for the Applications to use the Middleware.
